The
Variable Kingsnake is also known in the trade as simply,
"thayeri" - a case of the taxonomic nomenclature, Lampropeltis mexicana
thayeri providing the common name. As is
often the case, the taxonomy is anything but settled.
Neophyte collectors often find the entire mexicana complex
confusing with species appearing similar to one another.
To make matters even more confusing, Variable Kingsnakes
can bear remarkable resemblance to several triangulm species.
For our exploration of the species we will refer to
these animals by their common name, Variable Kingsnake.
