The pattern on this snake falls somewhere in the no-mans land between Blair's and alterna phases. This alterna hatched out light but now appears to be going dark with the tell-tell dark pigment developing on the head/nuchal area first as many dark phase Black Gap's tend to do. This girl was held back partially for color but primarily for the deep erasures in the orange saddles. The erasures trait on Black Gap alterna can be highly variable, combining synergistically with other black gap pattern/color eccentricities to make for some very psychedelic animals. One of the best developmental outcomes for these Black Gaps with deep erasures is when the snake becomes dark gray or black and the erasures continue to fade to pink and white. This individual is a possible het for hypomelanism and hypoerythrism .
