Young, not yet adult female - approximately 20 inches. Solomon island Boas are highly variable in coloration and, to a lesser degree, in pattern. More than once the alarms have gone off when it looked as if certain individuals had mysteriously "disappeared," only to find that the animal in question was in one of it's extremes of dark or light coloration. Some are more variable than others and there can be quite a color shift as the animals mature. These boas have the coolest heads (profile) of any boa. These boas can be frustrating to photograph as colors nearly always come out shifted. The scales seem to cause some kind of aberrant chromatic effect and often, as in the case of this individual, the colors inexplicably appear pixelated.
